Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Some things are made out of desperation.  I was making teriyaki chicken and I usually use a certain packet from the store.  Well, I ran out.  It was late and I didn’t want to go to the store.  So I scoured Pinterest.  They always deliver! I found a homemade teriyaki sauce that used pantry items, thank heavens!  And it was tasty!  I may never go back! Enjoy!

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

  1. 1 c. water
  2. 5 tbsp packed brown sugar
  3. 1/4 c. soy sauce
  4. 1-2 tbsp honey
  5. 1 large clove garlic, minced
  6. 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  7. 2 tbsp cornstarch
  8. 1/4 c. cold water
  1. Combine the 1 cup water, brown sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ground ginger in a medium saucepan and set over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the 1/4 c. water and whisk until dissolved.
  3. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce pan.
  4. Heat the sauce until it thickens to your desired thickness.
  5. If the sauce becomes too thick, add more water to thin it out.
  1. Use as a marinade or as a sauce for meat.
